The Composites Alliance of Rhode Island (CARI)
is a newly formed partnership of companies and stakeholders interested in growing the composites industry in Rhode Island through advocacy, education and promotion. Rhode Island Marine Trades Association (RIMTA) is working with CARI partners to initiate an action plan that will gather data about the composites industry in RI, connect composites companies to capacity building resources, expose and link youth and new workers to career opportunities, provide professional development and incumbent training opportunities and market industry capabilities to customers, potential employees and the general public. By utilizing best practice models demonstrated by RIMTA and other Industry Partnerships, and by leveraging infrastructure and programming already underway at RIMTA, the goal is to form an organization with long lasting sustainable programs that CARI can use and administer on their own for years to come.

Position Summary:
.
The Composites Alliance Project Director is a new position created to take the Composites Alliance of Rhode Island to the next level of growth and sustainability. This is a unique opportunity for a highly entrepreneurial composites professional to help shape and cultivate an industry poised for growth through a combination of economic development and sales initiatives. The Project Director will serve as a sales professional, representing approximately 50 composites companies in Rhode Island. The Project Director will effectively engage the dual customer base of member companies and targeted contracting companies to match collective member product and production capabilities to customer project and production needs. The ability to understand customer needs and help them meet their business and technical challenges are keys to success.

The Project Director will be responsible for identifying and pursuing new business opportunities for member companies while professionally representing the Alliance locally, regionally and nationally. The Project Director will work with the Alliance Steering Committee to set strategic goals and a corresponding action plan for the Alliance in areas including sales, marketing and partnerships.

Major Responsibilities: Increase number of new contracts between composites companies and composite consumers.

  • Develop and nurture new customers using a broad-based knowledge of the transportation, marine, architectural, alternative energy, underwater submersible and robotics markets. Other sales potential may also be realized according to collective regional capacity.
  • Extensive travel within the US for sales development and trade show representation.
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of our entire range of products and capabilities with the objective of identifying potential fits within advanced composites in Rhode Island.
  • Interface with key trade organizations to help develop a broader mix of industry contacts and remain up to date on industry issues and trends.
  • Support administration of educational and research partnerships directed by the Alliance.
  • Develop and execute on a strategic sales plan focused on aggressive growth.
  • Identify new and adjacent market opportunities.

    Essential Functions:

  • Communicate with Composites Alliance Steering Committee on all new opportunities and the progress and condition of new and existing contract opportunities.
  • Develop project and customer-specific sales strategy.
  • Visit customer facilities and/or construction jobsites to become intimate with member capabilities and develop trusting relationships.
  • Target new customers and follow on sales leads.
  • Present bidding opportunities to Alliance members, track bidding process and create a feedback loop with contractor and membership to ensure growth and maturity.
  • Provide regional reporting regarding target projects and representative effectiveness.

  • Confidentiality and neutrality a must to ensure a transparent bidding / RFP process.
